Roving and Batt

                   Roving

ROVING is the third step in processing fiber.  After the fiber is washed and picked to remove most of the debris and vegtable matter, the fiber is then sent through the CARDING machine.  The fibers are aligned and formed into long tubular coils which is then ready to be spun.  Hand spinners love fine alpaca roving.  During this process you can choose to have specialty blending of multiple colors or fibers.  Use your imagination.

                                             Batt

BATT is created in the same manner as roving, however it is formed into large clouds of fiber rather than tubes.  The batts are perfect for dry or wet felting.  We can produce layers of batt to make felted fabric here at the mill.

                                                                    Blending

BLENDING refers to the combining of wither multiple colors or other natural or synthetic fibers with your alpaca fiber.  For example, when blending is done at the picking stage you can create grey from white and black fleeces or adding a small amount of fine merino fiber will add memory to your alpaca yarn.  There is no additional charge to blend fibers at the picking stage.

Blending can also be done at the carding stage to create lovely brindle roving.  There is an addtional charge of $1.00/lb to make brindle or specialty roving.

Plying can also be a form of blending.  Each ply can be a different color which creates a multi-colored yarn.  There is no additional charge for plying up to 3 colors.
